*insert great intro here* My name is Katiana Bimshas. I'm fourteen and in 9th grade. In my POL I’ll be discussing the assignment that best shows revision, who I am and what I’ve learned about myself as a learner, the assignment I’m most proud of from this year and my goals for next year.
My assignment that best shows revision is my script for the play project. For this project we were put in pairs and had to create an outline for a play. From there, the top six plays were picked and we wrote out the whole play and then the final play would be chosen. The first draft of the assignment was the outline of the script. I got an A on the outline and proposal and my outline was chosen to be in the top six to write the whole script. The revisions made were writing the whole script itself and then going in and editing after peer revisions. I also spent a lot of time rewriting my scenes over and over again to get them to my liking. The final grade I got on the script was a C. I had talked to Jill about that and she said it was entered in wrong. There wasn’t a chance to re enter it before she left. During this process, I learned how to write a script. I also learned that the revision process is very helpful and can make your piece stronger. I think I'm more of a visual learner and a hands-on learner. I learn best if I can see what's being taught and if I can actually get to work. In humanities, writing comes to me pretty easily because I’m used to writing and I enjoy it, so I have no problem writing essays or doing writing assignments. It also helps that I did those a lot in middle school. An example is the House on Mango Street essay. Since I’ve written essays before and writing comes pretty naturally, this assignment wasn’t too difficult for me. I don’t think it counts as an academic task or skill that’s difficult for me but I tend to get bored in class. If I'm not interested in a project I lose focus and slack off. An example is the Me in We project. I often found myself not having anything to do so I would get distracted. I also didn’t enjoy the project and so I would get distracted and do other things because of that. I've worked to overcome this challenge by finding something interesting in every project to keep me focused and on task. What I’ve learned about myself as a learner this year is that I can work well in a group setting as well as an individual setting. Next year I plan to use that knowledge to identify which style suits that project. The work that I am most proud of from this year is the Toy Story 4 project. For this project we had to create a toy for a kid, I picked my brother, made out of cardboard. We also had to find the surface area and volume of the toy. I’m proud of this piece because I worked really hard on it and I think it came out nice. I’m also proud of it because I was able to make something nice for my brother. The lego is in our living room and we’re currently thinking of a name for it. I think this piece shows that if I really put my mind to it and work hard, I can create something I’m really proud of. I have a few goals for next year. First, and this one seems to pop up every year, is to not procrastinate and get everything done as soon as possible. Second, is to stay organized the entire year. And lastly, to try hard and do my best. The advice I would give to incoming ninth graders be able to use that knowledge to help achieve my goals for next year. Thank you for listening. |
