I’m just gonna start by saying that this speech was hard for me to write. I had some ideas floating in my head but nothing I put down on paper sounded right. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to talk about or what I wanted to show. Eventually I ended up with this kind of jumbled mess of stuff. Last year I didn’t feel super challenged in school and I had lost some motivation. I didn’t want to do any of the work (I’ll admit, I’m still kind of like that). I wasn’t really invested in the classes anymore. This year, however, was better. I enjoyed the classes and during second semester especially, I really wanted to do the work. Through the year I've figured out what kind of direction I want to go these next few years. After all the writing projects I've decided I'm just not into writing as much as I used to be and it’s not something I want to pursue. In Chris’s class we did the YouTube project & I was able to create a channel with my friend that we'd been planning for a while. Through this project I was able to learn more about film & I plan to take advantage of the opportunities HTHI provides to learn even more. I’m not really going to touch on first semester too much because honestly, I don’t remember much of it. While I did enjoy first semester, second semester was my favorite and where I think I did really well and challenged myself. During second semester I did green group for Ross’s class. I mostly did the literature and I challenged myself by reading more difficult books. A lot of the history green groups were challenging to get through but I made it. One of the goals I had last year was to not procrastinate. If I ever make that a goal again I will be lying to your face. I will procrastinate for the rest of my life. One of the proudest moments I had in my procrastination history was during the Worst Case Scenario project. We had to write a short story and I never turned anything in for a rough draft and I got a 2/3. By the time the final draft was due, I had not written anything. I wrote that whole story in advisory right before class started and I got an A. Now, I would not recommend this but I felt extremely proud. Another goal I made last year was to stay organized and for the most part I did. When I was in Ross’s class, we had to take notes and after school I would go back and rewrite my notes and make them color-coded and everything. This really came in handy for the midterms because all I had to do was review my notes and I’d be good. In group projects this is great because of my perfect attendance and organization skills. My classmates can always trust me to be there and to have our project kept together. An example of this is when I was the executive producer in the rap battle project. I kept the whole group organized and on task. There are still many things I can do to improve myself & the community of HTHI next year. I plan to work harder on the club I co-run and make it something HTHI can be proud of. I would also like to participate in class more next year so that I can get the most out of my time. Thank you.
